“Spartacus: Blood and Sand” is a historical drama which features the
Roman Republic’s most infamous rebel… Feeling betrayed by the Romans, a
Thracian mutinies against legatus Claudius Glaber. Soon after that, he
is captured and condemned to die in the gladiator arena for his crime
while the woman he loves ends up being sold to a Syrian slave trader.Amazingly, the prisoner manages to put away the four gladiators appointed to kill him. Seeing that, senator Albinius commutes his sentence to slavery. Impressed by the Thracian’ skill, Lentulus Batiatus, the owner of a training school for gladiators, purchases him. After joining his ludus, Spartacus befriends Varro, a Roman who sold himself into slavery to pay his debts and support his family. However, as the series progresses, he comes to loggerheads both with Crixus, an undefeated Gaul, and Barca, a Carthaginian.
Thrown in the brutal world of the arena, Spartacus must become more than a man. To survive in a world where treachery, corruption, violence and fame will constantly test him, he must become more than a gladiator.
