Gallagher in Coma after Heart Attack

Doctors say prognosis is good for full recovery; performances only canceled for two weeks. Prop comic Gallagher is in a medically induced coma in a Lewisville, Tex., hospital after suffering a heart attack Wednesday before taking the stage at a bar. The 65-year-old comedian's manager told the Huffington Post that the move was precautionary to help Gallagher recuperate from his second heart attack in the span of a year.


She added that doctors say the prognosis is good for a full recovery, and performances have only been canceled through the next two weekends. The comedian, whose full name is Leo Anthony Gallagher, complained of chest pains while in the green room at the Hat Tricks club in Lewisville Wednesday. He also collapsed last year on stage after suffering a mild heart attack while performing at the Whiskey Bone Roadhouse in Minnesota.

"They told us this was more severe," Karl Maahs, the manager of El Paso's Speaking Rock club, where Gallagher was scheduled to perform Thursday, told the El Paso Times. “They said he was unconscious. Last year was a pretty [mild\] one." Gallagher is best known for smashing watermelons and other objects with his “Sledge-O-Matic" wooden mallet.
